A 12-year old boy came to his grandmother’s rescue when he shot and killed a home intruder who had broken into her North Carolina home.
The two masked suspects forced their way into 73-year-old Linda Ellis’ home Saturday, shooting her in the leg, her great-niece, Chiquita Coley Ellis of Goldsboro, told a local NBC affiliate.
“I just couldn’t believe she’d been shot because she’s a good person,” the niece said.
One of the suspects shot the 73-year-old grandmother after Ellis told him that there was no money in the house.
It was then that the young boy used a family gun to defend his grandmother.
Shortly thereafter, one of the home invaders identified by Police as Khalil Herring, 19, died of his injuries.
NBC reported that Mrs. Ellis was taken to nearby Wayne UNC Health Care and treated for what the hospital described as ‘non-life-threatening injuries’.
Chiquita Coley Ellis said:
“I knew God was on our side.
I don’t know what [these criminals are] thinking around here in Goldsboro, but it’s got to stop.”
Local Police told NBC that the investigation into the home invasion is still ongoing, adding that there are no plans to charge the child for firing the weapon.
Considering that TuskerDaily reported yesterday that: A Chinatown Shopkeeper In Oakland, California Was Arrested For Shooting Gun Into The Air To Stop Robbery.
Luckily this happened in North Carolina and not California since it’s not hard to imagine the boy would be facing murder charges.
