What a week for the cancel culture mental midgets, they got Hasbro to make Mr. Potato Head Gender Neutral, turn White Supremacists Superman Black, and Now Dr. Seuss is racist and must be canceled for its “Racial Undertones”.
Read Across America Day (March 2nd) is a day to celebrate the joys of reading.
It also brings awareness to the importance of reading in education and helps to motivate kids to read more.
Schools and children across the United States celebrate this day. Teachers and librarians take the day as a special time to focus on the joys of reading.
March 2nd also happens to be Dr. Seuss’s birthday and for the past 20+ years ‘Read Across America Day’ so what better day to celebrate his work.
Schools and libraries do all sorts of things to celebrate.
They may have book reading contests or hold book fairs where kids can find new books to read.
Some teachers even hold a birthday party for Dr. Seuss where they have birthday cake and read some of his books out loud.
But as March 2nd approaches, the national educator organization ‘Learning for Justice’ is calling for Dr. Seuss to be canceled.
As social justice begins to make its way more and more into the mainstream, this year’s theme is “Create and Celebrate Diversity.”
Here’s more from the Daily Wire:
“Loudoun County Public Schools, one of the nation’s most affluent school districts, announced that it will no longer recognize Dr. Seuss on his birthday. In an announcement obtained by The Daily Wire, the school district said that Dr. Suess’s children’s books contain “racial undertones” that are not suitable for “culturally responsive” learning.
The school district’s announcement read: “Realizing that many schools continue to celebrate ‘Read Across America Day’ in partial recognition of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, it is important for us to be cognizant of research that may challenge our practice in this regard,” and it continues “As we become more culturally responsive and racially conscious, all building leaders should know that in recent years there has been research revealing radical undertones in the books written and the illustrations drawn by Dr. Seuss.”
In a magazine article titled “It’s time to talk about Dr. Seuss,” the leftist organization claims that Dr. Seuss’s children literature is filled with “orientalism, anti-blackness, and white supremacy.”
“Of the 2,240 (identified) human characters, there are 45 of color representing two percent of the total number of human characters,” the study reads. Of the 45 characters of color, 43 “exhibited behaviors and appearances that align with harmful and stereotypical Orientalist tropes,”
They also allege that the non-white characters are men and “subservient” to the white characters in the book; that they are presented as “exotified, or dehumanized.”
Learning for Justice claims that anyone who defends Dr. Seuss’s problematic work is a racial “apologist” and is making excuses for why “bigotry doesn’t matter.”
